Blevins: We need help in bullpen

- By DAN MARTIN

Sandy Alderson isn’t alone in his desire for the Mets to get some help in the bullpen.

“It’s pretty obvious we have a need for another big arm back there, especially with some of the limits we’re gonna have on our starting pitching coming through injury or lower innings limits,” Jerry Blevins said of the pen that currently features Blevins, Jeurys Familia, AJ Ramos and little else.

“So we’re gonna need to pick up a lot of innings,’’ Blevins said Thursday. “An Addison Reedtype or a power arm would take a lot of pressure off Familia, myself and AJ.”

If the Mets really want “an Addison Reed-type,” they’re in luck, because he’s a free agent.

But they are also interested in Bryan Shaw, who worked with new manager Mickey Callaway in Cleveland when Callaway was the pitching coach.

Left- hander Mike Minor already landed with the Rangers, leaving Shaw, Reed and Joe Smith among the list of top relievers available.

Reed performed well for the Mets last season before he was dealt to the Red Sox at the trade deadline, and Smith has previously pitched in Queens. He split 2017 between Toronto and Cleveland, so he also is familiar with Callaway.

Among the other holes the Mets are looking to fill is an outfield/first base-type. Adding an outfielder on the roster could impact the future of Bran

don Nimmo, who hit well in a regular role over the last seven weeks of the regular season.

“I felt like what I did last year in limited playing time, I proved I could play an everyday position in the major leagues,” Nimmo said. “Whether that position is open or not, I can’t control. A lot gets talked about in the offseason. We’ll have to wait ’til things go through. For me, I felt I did what I needed to do at the end of the year, but I understand this is a business.”
