Don’t Leave Schools Helpless
Several years ago, while teaching at an intermediate school in Brooklyn, I asked the security officer what he would do if an armed perpetrator entered the building (“Save our savior!” March 11). His answer: “I have no gun; I wouldn’t do anything.”
Unarmed security personnel are useless in preventing mass killings. Let’s keep police on the streets where they’re needed and arm all school-security staff.
