The President We Needed: Don’s Unpolished Appeal
Peggy Noonan wonders why President Trump’s approval rating is low, despite peace and prosperity (“Stumped by Trump,” PostScript, March 11).
The answer is Never Trumpers and a vicious, anti-Trump media that have sought to destroy him from the moment he announced his candidacy.
Trump has been cast in an unfavorable light by dishonest media that not only highlight his faults but willingly hide his triumphs.
He’s not perfect, but he is exactly who we need in the White House at this time. If Trump had got half the favorable coverage Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama received, his approval ratings would be much higher. Joe Hofmann Colonia, NJ
I’m disappointed by Noonan’s column. Perhaps she was more comfortable with Trump’s predecessors, who were good orators, but not much else.
With all that he has accomplished, he’ll be judged as one of our greatest presidents. Lynne Frassetti Colts Neck, NJ Noonan’s column is fueled by liberal polls.
The best poll was taken on Election Day, when Trump won 2,626 counties. Those people supported him in hopes of redirecting the nation. Some conservatives, moderates and others continue to support him.
Great job, President Trump. Keep up the good work. James Foley Airmont
Noonan blamed the rise of Trump on the wealthy and powerful in America not being “especially concerned” about the problems of the less fortunate among us.
Trump won because the powerful among us stopped solving our most urgent problems, allow- ing them to worsen.
Our economy was stifled, our schools failing, health-care costs soared, our streets were flooded with criminals and our foreign affairs cost trillions and won us nothing.
Politics is a combination of common sense and arm-twisting, and this generation of powerhungry politicians completely lacks the former.
So giving power to a non-politician seemed an idea worth trying. And to date, it’s working very well. Rich Klitzberg Boca Raton
Noonan is always referencing Ronald Reagan, as if nothing has changed since his administration.
We have had four presidents since, and they were all career politicians — where has that gotten us?
The country is in turmoil because of those who vote for politicians who give wonderful but empty speeches and do nothing when in power.
Please don’t lecture us on Trump’s style of leadership. If he’s helping the average American, God bless him. Gary Love Hicksville
