Gun-bribe trial begins
A former Brooklyn prosecutor forked over thousands of dollars in bribes to get NYPD gun permits for New Yorkers who should not have had them, including people with records of domestic disputes and DWI raps, prosecutors said in Manhattan Supreme Court Monday.
John Chambers, 63, is the first of seven people to go to trial in a probe that has shaken up the NYPD’s gunlicensing division.
“In New York City . . . it’s pretty damn near impossible to get a handgun if you have a criminal history,” prosecutor Alex Rossmiller told the jury during the trial, which is expected to last a week.
