Dems, media on hit list
Chuck, AOC among lieut.’s targets: feds
A US Coast Guard lieutenant with a weapons cache plotted to kill a slew of journalists and Democrats — including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, federal authorities said.
Self-proclaimed white nationalist Christopher Paul Hasson was arrested Feb. 15 on gun and drug charges when the feds found 15 firearms (right) in his Silver Springs, Md., home, according to authorities.
But prosecutors said those raps are just the “tip of the iceberg” in documents filed Tuesday in Maryland federal court.
“The defendant intends to mur- der innocent civilians on a scale rarely seen in this country,” the document arguing for Hasson’s detention pending trial reads.
Although court documents don’t include a specific planned date for the attack, the feds said Hasson (above right), 49, had been amass- ing the weapons since at least 2017.
He allegedly compiled an Excel list Jan. 19 of left-leaning pols and media personalities with MSNBC and CNN, including Chris Hayes, “Joey,” thought to be Joe Scarborough, Van Jones and Chris Cuomo.
Prosecutors say Hasson studied a 1,500-page manifesto by Anders Behring Breivik, the far-right terrorist who massacred 77 people in Norway in 2011.
In a draft e-mail dated June 2, 2017, Hasson wrote, “I am dreaming of a way to kill almost every last person on the earth,” the court documents say.
In a September 2017 letter to an American neo-Nazi leader, he identified himself as a white nationalist for more than 30 years.
Hasson was assigned to the US Coast Guard headquarters in Washington when he was arrested on charges of possession of firearm and ammunition and possession of the narcotic Tramadol.
He’s scheduled to appear for a detention hearing in federal court in Greenbelt, Md., Thursday.
