Van­dal in­ten­tion­ally floods One Eas­ton apart­ment

A van­dal caused thou­sands of dol­lars in dam­age

to an apart­ment build­ing un­der con­struc­tion af­ter he or she plugged a sink and left the wa­ter run­ning.

Ac­cord­ing to Ne­wark Po­lice spokesman Cpl. James Spadola, the in­ci­dent oc­curred around 3:15 p.m. April 15 at One Eas­ton, the apart­ment build­ing be­hind Ne­wark Shop­ping Cen­ter.

A con­struc­tion worker told po­lice some­one closed the drain in a bath­room sink in­side a third-floor apart­ment and turned the faucet on. Wa­ter poured onto the floor and dam­aged the apart­ment, as well as the unit be­low and a gym on the first floor.

The flood­ing caused $10,000 in dam­age.

Spadola said se­cu­rity footage of the in­ci­dent is not avail­able; how­ever, po­lice con­tinue to in­ves­ti­gate. There are no sus­pects at this time.
