Aetna baseball team — 1902
This week’s Out of the Attic item is a 1902 photo of the Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Co. baseball team.
Posing with the team is fire chief Hughes B. Wright, who is pictured in the back row wearing a straw hat.
When the photo was taken, the fire company was only 14 years old, having been founded in 1888 following the catastrophic Dean Woolen Mill fire two years earlier.
Out of the Attic is produced in partnership with the Newark Historical Society. The Newark History Museum, located in the old train station under the South College Avenue overpass, is open Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. For more info, call 302-234-4145 or visit www.newarkdehistoricalsociety.org
