Teens jump counter, steal cough syrup from Acme
Police are looking for two teenagers who stole cough syrup from a grocery store pharmacy on Tuesday night.
According to Newark Police spokesman Cpl. James Spadola, the theft occurred at approximately 7:10 p.m. when two boys entered the pharmacy inside Acme in the College Square Shopping Center.
Spadola said one of the teens jumped over the counter into an employee-only area and took approximately $240 worth of cough syrup. Employees who were nearby shouted at them to stop, but they did not listen and both ran out an emergency fire door.
There was no physical contact between the suspects and employees, and no weapons were shown or implied, Spadola said.
Acme’s security cameras captured the suspects walking into the grocery store, and police are asking for the public’s help to identify them.
The first suspect, who Spadola said jumped over the counter and stole the cough syrup, is described as a 6-foot-2-inch-tall black male, approximately 18 years old, weighing 140 pounds with a thin build. He was wearing a baseball-style hat, a black zip-up jacket with white strings, faded black jeans and white sneakers.
The second suspect is a 5-foot-3inch-tall black male, approximately 13 years old, with an average build. He was wearing a dark-colored baseball-style hat, khaki pants and a dark hooded sweatshirt.
Spadola said the second suspect remained in the customer area during the theft.
