Local brass band to play 20th-anniversary concert
The Chesapeake Silver Cornet Brass Band will celebrate 20 years of music with a special anniversary concert at the First Presbyterian Church on Saturday.
The free concert is open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. at the church located at 292 W. Main St., next to the Newark Country Club.
The 35-piece, Wilmington/ Newark-based band was formed in 1996 and is the only non-military, all-brass plus percussion concert band in the state. It has grown over the years into a blend of local residents, professional musicians from neighboring states and students from the University of Delaware and local high schools. Russell Murray, professor and chair of UD’s Department of Mu- sic, is the band’s director and conductor.
During Saturday’s concert, the band will play selected audience favorites from past performances including “March from Aida,” “The Black Horse Troop” march, “Finlandia,” “Caravan,” “Floral Dance,” “Bugler’s Holiday” and many more.
