Lineup an­nounced for spring con­cert se­ries

Two free con­cert se­ries spon­sored by the Ne­wark Parks and Re­cre­ation Depart­ment are re­turn­ing this year as one com­bined se­ries.

For sev­eral years, the depart­ment has hosted a spring con­cert se­ries fea­tur­ing lo­cal bands and soloists. Last year marked the de­but of the Ne­wark Youth’s Got Tal­ent se­ries, which gives lo­cal kids and teens a chance to take the stage.

This year, each Thurs­day dur­ing the months of May and June, both youth and adult acts will get a chance to per­form on the Academy Lawn on Main Street. The youth act goes on first, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., fol­lowed by the adult act from 7 to 8 p.m.

In the case of rain, the con­certs will be held in­side the Aetna Hose Hook and Lad­der Co. fire­house on Academy Street. Acts sched­uled so far in­clude: May 12: El­bert-Palmer El­e­men­tary School Drum Line (youth), Al­most Acous­tic (adult)

May 19: Caitlin Mar­silii (youth), The Jim­mies (adult)

May 26: Wicked Wayz (youth), Yosi (adult) June 2: Joe Baione (adult) June 9: Gar­ret Nor­man (youth), The Acous­tic Jam (adult)

June 16: Jes­sica Belle (youth), USAF Lan­g­ley Winds (adult)

June 23: Grace Wal­ton and the SSS Un­loaded (youth), Yosi (adult)


The teen band Wicked Wayz will per­form on the Academy Lawn on May 26.
