Food and Brew show­cases restau­rants

Thou­sands braved op­pres­sive heat and a late-af­ter­noon thun­der­storm to at­tend Ne­wark’s 13th-an­nual Food and Brew Fes­ti­val on Satur­day. Eigh­teen down­town bars and restau­rants of­fered beer sam­ples paired with spe­cial menu items rang­ing from $2 to $10. Par­tic­i­pat­ing for the first time was Chur­ras­caria Sau­dades, which opened ear­lier this year in Ne­wark Shop­ping Cen­ter, and Mediter­ranean Grille, which re­cently ob­tained a liquor li­cense.

Lisa Kitchen, Tina Mur­phy, Stacy Hollinger and Elle Sheaf­fer-Michael en­joy drinks on the pa­tio out­side Stone Bal­loon Ale House. All 1992 Uni­ver­sity of Delaware grad­u­ates, the women were cel­e­brat­ing the an­niver­sary of their soror­ity, Sigma Kappa.
