Police trying to identify repeat shoplifter
Newark Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a man who has been captured on camera stealing from the Acme in Suburban Plaza twice since May.
Spokesman Cpl. James Spadola said the store’s loss prevention officer was reviewing Sunday’s security footage and saw the man take two containers of Tide Pods detergent packs worth $21 each and one pack of Gillette razor blades worth $37.50 off the shelf around 8:30 a.m. He concealed the items inside his clothes as he walked out of the store.
Spadola said the officer recognized the man from a previous incident at the same store. On May 24, he stole a pack of razors and a bottle of Dove body wash before driving off in a small gold or silver car.
Police have released surveillance footage of both incidents. The alleged thief is described as a large black man between 6 feet and 6 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 200 to 300 pounds.
Anyone with any additional information should call Newark Police at 302-366-7111.
