Kmart employee thwarts shoplifter

Newark Post - - POLICE BLOTTER -

A loss prevention officer at Kmart stopped a man from stealing hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise on Saturday.

According to Newark Police spokesman Cpl. James Spadola, the incident occurred at approximately 10:48 a.m. at the store in the College Square Shopping Center.

Spadola said the man tried to walk out with several items – totaling $325 – but dropped them once he was confronted by the loss pre- vention officer. He then left the store and possibly got into a blue Ford Fusion.

Police have released surveillance footage of the man and are asking for the public’s help to identify him. He is described as a while man, 30 to 40 years old, wearing a white T-shirt, blue shorts and a green Philadelphia Eagles baseball cap. If found, he could face charges for shoplifting.

Anyone with additional information on this incident should contact Cpl. Ronald Zappaterrini at Ronald.Zappater or 302-366-7100 x3444.

Police believe this man tried to steal items from Kmart on Aug. 6 and are asking for the public’s help to identify him.
