Art gallery re­cep­tion: Tonight, 6 to 8 p.m., at Ne­wark Arts Al­liance, 276 E. Main St. A re­cep­tion will in­tro­duce NAA’s ex­hibit “Up Close in the Gar­den” which fea­tures art fo­cused on de­tail and in­tri­cacy in the gar­den. The ex­hibit will be on dis­play through June 24. Free. Chapel Street Play­ers show: Tonight and Satur­day at 8 p.m.; Sun­day at 2 p.m., at Chapel Street Play­house, 27 N.

Chapel St. The Chapel Street Play­ers will per­form “The Fan­ta­sticks,” a 1960 mu­si­cal about two neigh­bor­ing fa­thers who trick their chil­dren into fall­ing in love by pre­tend­ing to feud. Tick­ets $20. Visit chapel­street­play­ or call 302368-2248.

New Night Down­town: Satur­day, 3 to 9

p.m., Main Street. Ne­wark’s an­nual street fes­ti­val will fea­ture ven­dors, food, craft sales, kids games and more. Free. Park­ing avail­able in city lots at no charge.

Coun­cil meet­ing: Mon­day, 7 p.m. at city hall, 220 S. Main St. Coun­cil will vote on sev­eral is­sues, in­clud­ing the pur­chase of a li­cense plate recog­ni­tion sys­tem for the park­ing di­vi­sion, the in­stal­la­tion of a new pedes­trian sig­nal on Delaware Av­enue and new reg­u­la­tions for cell­phone tow­ers. The board will also dis­cuss the pro­ce­dure for fir­ing a city man­ager, the rules of deco­rum dur­ing meet­ings and the pos­si­bil­ity of re­quir­ing coun­cil spon­sor­ship for or­di­nances. Con­cert: Wed­nes­day, 6:30 p.m., at White Clay Creek State Park’s Car­pen­ter Re­cre­ation Area, 880 New Lon­don Road. Big Pack­age Band will per­form as part of the park’s weekly sum­mer con­cert se­ries. Free, but park fees ap­ply. Con­cert: Thurs­day, 7 p.m., on the Academy Lawn. The Ne­wark Parks and Re­cre­ation De­part­ment’s spring con­cert se­ries con­tin­ues with a per­for­mance by The Ju­ve­niles.
