Ne­wark piano stu­dents per­form at Carnegie Hall

Four stu­dents of Ne­wark piano teacher Loretta Jankowski per­formed in Carnegie Recital Hall in New York City on May 28 af­ter be­ing named win­ners in the Piano Teach­ers So­ci­ety of Amer­ica. Matthew Ebron, a 14-year-old third-time win­ner from New Cas­tle, was in­vited to par­tic­i­pate in a master class given by Alon Gold­stein, a con­cert pi­anist who per­formed with the Delaware Sym­phony this sea­son. Ebron was also in­vited to play in the Hon­ors Recital spon­sored by the Delaware State Mu­sic Teach­ers As­so­ci­a­tion. Lu­mina Zhang, 10, a first-time win­ner from West Grove Pa., won in two sep­a­rate cat­e­gories of the com­pe­ti­tion. She re­ceived a $50 prize for win­ning in the “Slenczyn­ska” cat­e­gory, which re­quired five dif­fer­ent pieces, one of which was a com­plete Sonatina. Daniel Tapel, a 15-year-old Bear res­i­dent, and Terry Lou, a 9-year-old Ne­wark res­i­dent, were also first-time win­ners. In this photo are Matthew Ebron, Lu­mina Zhang and Daniel Tapel.
