Newark piano students perform at Carnegie Hall
Four students of Newark piano teacher Loretta Jankowski performed in Carnegie Recital Hall in New York City on May 28 after being named winners in the Piano Teachers Society of America. Matthew Ebron, a 14-year-old third-time winner from New Castle, was invited to participate in a master class given by Alon Goldstein, a concert pianist who performed with the Delaware Symphony this season. Ebron was also invited to play in the Honors Recital sponsored by the Delaware State Music Teachers Association. Lumina Zhang, 10, a first-time winner from West Grove Pa., won in two separate categories of the competition. She received a $50 prize for winning in the “Slenczynska” category, which required five different pieces, one of which was a complete Sonatina. Daniel Tapel, a 15-year-old Bear resident, and Terry Lou, a 9-year-old Newark resident, were also first-time winners. In this photo are Matthew Ebron, Lumina Zhang and Daniel Tapel. Missing from the photo is Terry Luo.
