Police believe person was hit by train
A person was found dead along the Amtrak tracks in Newark on Wednesday morning.
Amtrak workers reported the death at approximately 9:30 a.m., according to Newark Police spokesman Lt. Fred Nelson. Police believe the victim was hit by a train but noted the investigation is ongoing.
The crash is believed to have happened between the Newark Train Station and South Chapel Street, but neither Newark Police nor Amtrak could provide an exact location. Police and forensic investigators seemed to focus their attention on the area near Lewis Park and later recovered the body there.
