Thieves strike cars in Ab­bots­ford

Thieves struck a num­ber of ve­hi­cles parked in the Ab­bots­ford de­vel­op­ment be­tween Satur­day night and Sun­day morn­ing, po­lice re­ported.

The Ne­wark Po­lice Depart­ment is in­ves­ti­gat­ing at least five un­law­ful en­tries of ve­hi­cles in that de­vel­op­ment be­tween 9:30 p.m. Satur­day and 9:50 a.m. Sun­day.

One 33-year-old res­i­dent of East Gal­loway Court re­ported that he likely left his win­dow down overnight and his wal­let was stolen from his ve­hi­cle, Ne­wark Po­lice Depart­ment spokesman Lt. Fred Nel­son re­ported. The wal­let was later re­cov­ered near his ve­hi­cle, how­ever, the cash had been re­moved.

A 43-year-old res­i­dent of East Gal­loway Court re­ported that both of his ve­hi­cles were left un­locked and had been rum­maged through, how­ever, noth­ing was stolen.

A 33-year-old res­i­dent of Tan­tallon Court re­ported that her purse was stolen from her un­locked ve­hi­cle, how­ever, it was re­cov­ered near Ab­bots­ford Lane with noth­ing miss­ing from in­side of it.

Two ad­di­tional res­i­dents from Tan­tallon Court, a 26-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, re­ported their un­locked ve­hi­cles had been ri­fled through, but noth­ing was miss­ing.

There is no video sur­veil­lance avail­able for re­lease at this time.

“Res­i­dents are re­minded to al­ways lock their ve­hi­cles and to im­me­di­ately re­port any sus­pi­cious ac­tiv­ity to the po­lice depart­ment,” Nel­son said.
