A 73-year-old woman was shoved to the ground and robbed in the parking lot of College Square Shopping Center on Saturday afternoon.

The incident happened as the woman was finishing loading groceries into her car outside the Acme supermarket at 2:45 p.m., according to Sgt. Gerald Bryda, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department.

A man approached her from behind and pushed her to the ground, Bryda said. He grabbed her purse, which contained an iPhone and other belongings, and ran toward Ogletown Road. The woman suffered an injury to her elbow but did not require immediate medical attention.

The phone was later recovered on Ogletown Road near Stafford Way.

The robber was described as a white man in his 20s wearing a tan jacket and a hat. No surveillance video was available.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact Detective Daniel Bystricky at DBystricky@newark.de.us or 302-366-7100 ext. 3136.
