Dark Arts Opening reception: Tonight, 6 to 8 p.m., at Newark Arts Alliance, 276 E. Main St. The art display uses all media to explore the spirit world and supernatural. Show runs through Oct. 26.
Community cleanup: Saturday, 9 to 11 a.m., at city
hall, at 220 S. Main St. Volunteer as an individual or with a group to clean up Newark. Trash bags will be provided.
Harvest Arts Festival: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Academy Lawn, 105 E. Main St. In its 10th year, the festival displays fine art and crafts for sale and an art project for all ages. Free.
Hero Run/Walk, 5K: Sunday, 1 p.m., at Glasgow Park Playground, 2275 Pulaski Highway. Race honors fallen New Castle County police officer Lt. Joseph Szczerba and benefits the Brian Conley Veterans Resiliency Center in Middletown. $25, $20 for ages 9-15.
GEM Studio Movies: Sunday, 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., at Main Street Movies in the Newark Shopping Center. Eight short films shot during a children’s summer camp will be premiered. $9.
Latinx Heritage Month: Monday, 6:30 p.m., at Clayton Hall Auditorium, University of Delaware. Features performance by Amara La Negra, an entertainer and star in Love & Hip Hop: Miami, and a moderated discussion.
History Quiztory: Thursday, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Glasgow Park, 2275 Pulaski Highway. Learn about the area’s history through artifacts and a mini-quiz. Free.
NHS Autumn Choral Concert: Thursday, 7 to 8 p.m., at Newark High School, 740 E. Delaware Ave. A musical performance of a student ensemble.
