A Newark man returned to his apartment as it was being burglarized Tuesday night, police said.

When the man returned to his ground-floor apartment at Colonial Gardens Apartments at 343 E. Main St. just after 11 p.m., he heard noises coming from his bedroom and saw that items had been moved or were missing, said Lt. Andrew Rubin, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department.

As the resident entered the bedroom, he saw that the intruder had fled through the apartment window.

Police canvassed the area but did not locate a suspect.

Several items stolen from the apartment were located outside.

Rubin would not specify the method of entry, only that the suspect entered the apartment using force.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call Detective William Anderson at 302-366-7100 x. 3469 or wanderson@newark.de.us.
