Ne­wark woman charged with dump­ing cat lit­ter

A Ne­wark woman was charged with dump­ing gro­cery bags filled with cat lit­ter along the Four Sea­sons Park­way south of Ne­wark last week.

The il­le­gal dump­ing al­legedly took place in Au­gust, Septem­ber and Oc­to­ber. The Depart­ment of Nat­u­ral Re­sources and En­vi­ron­men­tal Con­trol was alerted to the in­ci­dent through its 24-hour com­plaint line.

Nat­u­ral Re­sources Po­lice of­fi­cers, in con­junc­tion with the depart­ment’s en­vi­ron­men­tal crimes unit, in­ves­ti­gated the com­plaint and ar­rested the sus­pect on Oct. 30.

Deb­o­rah Collins, 58, was charged with three counts of caus­ing or con­tribut­ing to the dis­posal of solid waste ma­te­ri­als. The charges carry a min­i­mum fine of $500 each.

Collins pleaded guilty to two counts of caus­ing or con­tribut­ing to the dis­posal dis­charge of solid waste ma­te­ri­als. She was fined $1,000, plus court costs.
