5th County Council District

Newark Post - - LOCAL NEWS -

New Castle County Councilwoman Lisa Diller earned her third full term, easily defeating Republican John Richard Thomas in the District 5 race.

A Democrat, Diller earned 67 percent of the vote compared to Thomas’ 33 percent.

Diller felt she had a good chance to win coming into the election, and noted the “steady stream of people” voting at Downes Elementary School on Tuesday.

The ability to serve her district is a privilege, she said, crediting her victor y to her time spent doing community work.

Diller represents District 5, which includes most of Newark, plus other neighborhoods along the Route 4 corridor.

A resident of Williamsburg Village, Diller is a pastor and an adjunct professor at Wilmington University.

She plans to continue working to crack down on the illegal use of ATVs and dirt bikes, which is a particular problem in parks and open spaces behind the neighborhoods along Route 4.

“People can’t use their backyards because these things are making so much noise anytime it’s a nice day,” she said previously.
