State Rep. Earl Jaques beat out Libertarian Bill Hinds to earn his sixth term in the state house.
“Everyone said, ‘Ah, it’s a Libertarian, you got it,’ but I took nobody lightly,” Jaques said Tuesday night.
Jaques, a Democrat, defeated Hinds 85 percent to 15 percent.
He represents District 27, which encompasses an area south of Newark, stretching from Sunset Lake Preserve to Lums Pond State Park.
Jaques spent some time at all of the polling places in his district and met his opponent for the first time Tuesday, he said.
He credited his victory to getting out and meeting the people, quoting the old adage “signs don’t vote, people do.”
Because he knows the residents in his district well, their issues were his issues, he said.
“I ran in the beginning to do some things in education and healthcare,” he said previously. “I
