Cuban Printer Empresa de Artes Graficas Federico Engels inked a deal with manroland web systems for a Uniset press.

The press consists of one H/H printing tower and two reel splicers with a maximum web width of 965 millimeters. The PFN 2:3:1 pin folder enables format changes from tabloid to broadsheet and several book formats. The press runs at speeds up to 75,000 copies per hour.

The new press will also be equipped with the manroland’s Pecom automated press controls.

The new press is scheduled for delivery by the end of 2015, and is slated to start production in the first quarter of 2016.

Empresa de Artes Graficas produces Cuban newspaper Granma, La Calle Del Medio and The Havana Reporter, as well as a number of tabloid publications and educational textbooks.

“(This) was a strategic decision and an investment in the future of our company,” said Juan Jose Valdez, director general at Empresa de Artes Graficas Federico Engles.
