Advance units merge revenue boosting ops across south
NOLA Media Group and Alabama Media Group, publishers of The (News Orleans) TimesPicayune and Birmingham News, respectively, announced plans to form a new regional media company later this year across Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi. The company aims to accelerate audience and revenue growth in the region, NOLA.com reported.
NMG President Ricky Mathews will serve as president of the new company while also retaining his current post.
Tom Bates, president of Alabama Media Group, will continue to be based in Birmingham, working closely with Mathews. AMG produces Al.com and publishes The Birmingham News, the Press-Register in Mobile and The Huntsville Times newspapers. It also operates Gulflive.com and publishes The (Pascagoula) Mississippi Press.
Bates said there are no plans to change printing or delivery schedules of any of the newspapers in New Orleans, Alabama or Mississippi.
The moves follows similar initiatives from NMG and AMGparent Advance Publications to regionalize different functions of its newspaper properties via centralized services units.
The publisher in March 2014 launched NJ Media to provide content, advertising and marketing services to all of its newspapers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and to ramp up sales and marketing efforts. That unit encompasses The Star-Ledger in Newark, NJ.com, The Times of Trenton, N.J. and The ExpressTimes of Easton, Pa.
