Min­dener Tage­blatt uses Ever­sify for e-Edi­tion

Ger­man news­pa­per pub­lisher, Min­dener Tage­blatt part­nered with Ever­sify to stream­line the pro­duc­tion of the mo­bile ver­sion of its daily news­pa­per.

The mo­bile con­tent pub­lish­ing soft­ware from Agfa Graph­ics, Ever­sify is a cloud-based so­lu­tion that au­to­mates the pro­duc­tion and pub­li­ca­tion process op­ti­mized for smart­phones and tablets.

Staff at Min­dener Tage­blatt be­gan de­vel­op­ing an in-house ver­sion of its print news­pa­per for mo­bile de­vices, but ran into trou­ble with the grow­ing num­ber of mo­bile plat­forms to pro­duce for.

“Pro­duc­ing a mo­bile news­pa­per is a com­pletely dif­fer­ent ball game,” said Christoph Pep­per, edi­tor-in-chief of Min­dener Tage­blatt. “Our page lay­out sys­tems are op­ti­mized for printed news­pa­pers, not for pro­duc­ing dy­namic con­tent for mo­bile de­vices. We needed an au­to­mated so­lu­tion that could blend XML data from our ed­i­to­rial sys­tems into an op­ti­mized lay­out for a va­ri­ety of mo­bile de­vices and op­er­at­ing sys­tems.”

Cre­at­ing the e-edi­tion of the paper meant hav­ing to cus­tom­ize con­tent for op­ti­mal view­ing on all dig­i­tal-dis­play me­dia. The pub­lisher also re­designed its website to be more mo­bile friendly as well. Ad­di­tion­ally, Min­dener Tage­blatt wanted all ver­sions of its ePaper on one pro­duc­tion plat­form. With Ever­sify, the pub­lisher didn’t need to in­vest in ad­di­tional hard­ware or soft­ware since it al­ready had a re­la­tion­ship with Agfa Graph­ics. The cloud-based so­lu­tion is hosted within the Agfa cloud in­fra­struc­ture and in­te­grates with news­pa­per ed­i­to­rial and pro­duc­tion en­vi­ron­ments. It also au­to­mat­i­cally cre­ates ePapers that can be edited when needed. Fi­nally, Ever­sify can pro­vide test ver­sions to show ed­i­tors what the prod­uct will look like on var­i­ous dig­i­tal me­dia de­vices a tool Min­dener Tage­blatt is plan­ning on us­ing in the fu­ture.

“It will play an es­sen­tial role when we de­velop ad­di­tional prod­ucts,” said Pep­per. “It’s all part of a uni­fied pub­lish­ing work­flow that com­bines print, dig­i­tal prod­ucts and pub­li­ca­tion apps to cre­ate a pre­mium read­ing ex­pe­ri­ences, what­ever plat­form the reader is us­ing.”
