As you plan to attend this September’s PRINT 17 exhibition and conference in Chicago, be sure to arrive before the exhibits open to check out the pre-show OUTLOOK 17 conference! In my previous look at this year’s OUTLOOK 17 agenda, I previewed our keynote presentation (with Charlie Eitel, the CEO of WS Packaging Group), the everpopular economic forecast (to be delivered by ITR Economics’ Dr. Alan Beaulieu), and our special research presentation on custom publishing (as investigated by Ryerson University’s Kim Latreille). Now here’s the scoop on the rest of the conference.

Leveraging her experience in nearly every facet of the printing industry, Sandi Neuman will reveal the secret to “Enhancing Print Through Integrated Marketing.” As a former press operator, plant manager, salesperson, shop owner, and even the president and CEO of Arizona’s Printing Industries of America chapter, she understands what it takes to make the transition from print manufacturer to marketing services provider. Sandi Neuman will pull back the curtain on the highly successful practices of printing powerhouse Henry Wurst Inc. to explain some of their most innovative and popular services. From “journey mapping” to “social listening,” Sandi understands what it takes to position print as an integrated marketing strategy, and she’ll share her best strategies with you!

Just before the mid-session coffee break, we’ll unveil BIZ Talk, a new component of the OUTLOOK line-up. This 15-minute segment will focus on a thought-provoking topic that is not specific to the printing industry, but has implications on what printers do. BIZ Talk’s inaugural session will feature the dynamic Dr. Joel Whalen, an internationally respected lecturer and former “Teacher of the Year.” In his remarks on “Reciprocation—Why and How Givers Get,” Dr. Whalen will explain the benefits of business relationships based on reciprocation. Think that this doesn’t affect print? Today’s printing market is increasingly focused on vertical opportunities, which means working closely with our clients to become partners rather than just vendors; in this enlightening talk, Joel will help you understand how “being ready to give” can make you more successful in your interpersonal connections.

The venerable panel discussion returns to this year’s OUTLOOK conference as Deborah Corn, the Print Media Centr’s Intergalactic Ambassador to The Printerverse, hosts a highly interactive printer panel discussion on inkjet printing. Look for Deborah to bring her trademark wit (and space alien antennae) to this lively session on “Transforming Your Business with Inkjet Printing,” in which she’ll discuss the pros and cons of adopting inkjet with three printers who possess first-hand experience with this exploding trend.

OUTLOOK 17 concludes with a pair of awards presentations: the MUST SEE ’EMS Awards and the Positively Print Award. NPES President Thayer Long and Two Sides North America President Phil Riebel will confer the 2017 Positively Print Award on a company whose self-promotional activity best promotes the value, effectiveness, and sustainability of print. In contrast, it’s the vendors who are exhibiting at PRINT 17 that will vie for the annual MUST SEE ’EMS awards, in which an anonymous panel of print experts select the new products that attendees “must see” when they visit the show in Chicago. In addition to celebrating the winners and top vote-getters in 11 different print production categories, we’ll also reveal this year’s Legacy Award to recognize a past MUST SEE ’EMS winner that had a lasting impact on the printing industry.

OUTLOOK 17 is jam-packed with educational insights, as well as the opportunity to network with a top-notch audience of print professionals. If your business is related to putting ink onto paper, this four-hour experience is one that you should not miss!
