Mike DelPrete has joined Florida-based AIM Group, publishers of Classified Intelligence Report, as a principal and senior consultant. DelPrete’s expertise in real estate tech and the trends affecting real estate advertising will support AIM Group classified advertising and investment clients. In addition to writing and consulting, DelPrete will work with AIM Group clients on funding and mergers and acquisitions.
Eugene Jackson, a veteran leader in the newspaper industry, has been named the new publisher of the Rapid City Journal (South Dakota). In his new role as a regional publisher, Jackson will also serve as publisher of the Casper Star-Tribune in Wyoming, another paper owned by Lee Enterprises.
Lee Enterprises has named Jeff Precourt regional publisher of the company’s Oregon enterprises. Currently publisher of the Albany Democrat-Herald, the Corvallis GazetteTimes and the weeklies Lebanon Express and Philomath Express, Precourt will have an expanded role to include The World in Coos Bay and its associated weekly publications.
Bruce Hartmann is leaving his post as president of the Chattanooga Times Free Press to take a job with the University of Tennessee Medical Center. He will be succeeded by Jeff DeLoach, a 56-year-old native of Jackson, Tenn., who has been serving as publisher of two Texas newspapers.

BH Media Group has appointed Alton Brown to be the next publisher of the Winston-Salem Journal and vice president of the North Carolina Group of the company, which includes the News & Record (Greensboro). Brown is currently regional publisher of the Lynchburg, Virginia Group, according to a statement from Terry J. Kroeger, BH Media Group’s president and chief executive officer.
Abe D. Jones Jr., arts editor at the News & Record (Greensboro), recently died at the age of 87. He “knew everybody and everything about the local arts scene,” said Allen Johnson, News & Record editorial page editor and former features editor.

The son of New York Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. has been tapped to take over the newspaper’s opinion section from his father. It’s the second promotion for A.G. Sulzberger, 36, who last October was named The Times’s deputy publisher.

Martie Zad, who spent 53 years on The Washington Post staff, rising from part-time sports copy boy to sports editor and who also served on teams that developed some of the paper’s first electronic editing systems, died May 15 at his home in Silver Spring, Maryland. He was 89.
