Butler Eagle to upgrade press
The Butler Eagle (Pennsylvania) is getting a second-phase controls upgrade to a Goss Uniliner press. Harland Simon will do the upgrade, which will involve replacing three RotoVision PCs and two-drive ControlLogix PLCs to remove obsolete components and future-proof the press, a news release says. Screens will be replaced with additional Prima PressNet control screens, meaning all press control functions can be accessed via Harland Simon touch screens. The ControlLogix processors in the press control rack will also be upgraded along with the central maintenance and diagnostic capabilities via RS Logix 500 software ( by Allen-Bradley) to allow quick fault finding and maximize uptime.
The upgrade brings Butler Eagle’s con- trol systems up to the latest standards.
Installation was set for September this year. The existing system will remain operational until the new equipment has been commissioned.
The upgrade has also been done at Advance Web Offset (California), TribuneReview, (Pennsylvania), Engle Printing (Pennsylvania) and the Arizona Republic.
