Main-Post group in­vests in Koenig & Bauer tow­ers

With the pur­chase of two highly au­to­mated Com­man­der CL print­ing tow­ers, the Main-Post me­dia group is pur­su­ing its cho­sen path of grad­ual mod­ern­iza­tion.

"Piece by piece, we are up­grad­ing our print­ing presses so that they rep­re­sent the lat­est state of the art. For us, the two new print­ing tow­ers also in­di­cate our clear com­mit­ment to printed news­pa­pers," says David Brand­stat­ter, manag­ing di­rec­tor of Main-Post, based in Wurzburg, Ger­many.

The com­pany pre­vi­ously in­vested in a new fold­ing unit in 2015. With the two new print­ing tow­ers, which are due to start pro­duc­tion at the be­gin­ning of 2019, up to 47,000 news­pa­per copies with 32 pages each can be printed in one hour.

About 1,000 peo­ple are cur­rently work­ing for the com­pany, part of the Presse­druck me­dia group in Augs­burg and pro­duc­ing dailies the Main-Post, Sch­we­in­furter Tag­blatt, Sch­we­in­furter Volk­szeitung, Hass­furter Tag­blatt, Bote vom Hass­gau and Volks­blatt.

In ad­di­tion to the two print­ing tow­ers, the com­pany is in­vest­ing in two Pas­tomat reel­stands and two Pa­tras A reel load­ing sys­tems. The au­to­ma­tion pack­age con­sists of RollerTronic roller locks, CleanTronic cylin­der wash­ing sys­tems, color reg­is­ter and cut-off reg­is­ter con­trols, color mea­sur­ing and con­trol sys­tems and fully au­to­matic plate chang­ing sys­tems in­clud­ing plate lift.

The Com­man­der CL is con­trolled via a new Er­goTronic con­sole with EasyTronic.
