Gate­House Me­dia is o er­ing buy­outs to sta at papers in New Eng­land, masslive.com re­ports.

“Strate­gic ex­pense re­duc­tion, along with rev­enue growth, is our path to sus­tain­ing qual­ity, lo­cal jour­nal­ism. While rev­enue trends are im­prov­ing, our com­pany is not yet in rev­enue growth mode and we must con­tinue to man­age ex­pense,” Gate­House Me­dia Re­gional Vice Pres­i­dent Peter Meyer wrote in an email to Gate­House em­ploy­ees, ac­cord­ing to masslive.com.

Cost cut­ting is called for to “prop­erly align costs with rev­enues,” the memo said, ac­cord­ing to MassLive.

As of April 2018, Gate­House pub­lishes 144 daily news­pa­pers, 341 com­mu­nity pub­li­ca­tions and more than 569 lo­cal mar­ket web­sites.

Gate­House owns 126 papers in Mas­sachusetts, in­clud­ing the Worces­ter Tele­gram & Gazette. Prop­er­ties in New Eng­land listed on Gate­House’s web­site in­clude e Prov­i­dence Jour­nal, the New­port Daily News, two Maine papers, four New Hamp­shire papers and one paper in Con­necti­cut.
