Lansdale man charged with cocaine possession
Wendell B. Savage Jr., 27, of the 300 block of West Main Street, Lansdale, was arrested Tuesday after a warranted search turned up suspected cocaine in an SUs he was driving.
Lansdale police had received information that Savage was allegedly selling drugs and driving a blue Lincoln Navigator.
At 7: 20 p. m. Aug. 7, a Lansdale police officer stopped a vehicle match- ing the description and driven by Savage.
He allegedly made comments during the traffic stop that led officers to request the assistance of a narcoticstrained Montgomery Township K- 9.
Police said the dog alerted them to the presence of a controlled substance in the vehicle.
Lansdale police executed a search warrant on the vehicle Aug. 8, which revealed nine bags of cocaine totaling approximately 7.5 grams.
Unsuccessful attempts were made by police to contact Savage, according to a press release from Lansdale police.
The arrest warrant was served when Savage appeared at Lansdale district court for an unrelated summary hearing.
“He was informed that forfeiture proceedings had begun to relinquish the Lincoln Navigator over to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office,” the release said.
Savage was charged with possession of controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intention to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and restrictions on use of probationary license.
Police said that Savage was arraigned by District Justice Patricia Zaffarano of Ambler, who set bail at $ 50,000 cash.
He was taken to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail.
