Eclec­tic mix in­cludes mayor’s art­work

An eclec­tic show of jew­el­ryI paint­ingsI pho­tog­ra­phyI art glass and ce­ram­ics is on dis­play at Wa­ter ble­men­tal Crafts C cine Art Gallery in ians­dale.

Artists were on hand to greet vis­i­tors at the open­ing of the show Sept. TI which cel­e­brated the sec­ond an­niver­sary of the gallery.

Szeke­lyI 4OI a chi­ro­prac­torI as well as the bor­ough’s may­orI has been paint­ing since he was a child.

ee be­gan a paint­ing of the for­mer jayor jike DiNun­zioI who passed away and “un­for­tu­nately never got to see itI” said Szekely. ee fol­lowed with for­mer coun­cil­man Dick Stricker.

“I en­joyed do­ing the por­traits so I kept go­ingI” said Szeke­lyI who works in oil paint on can­vas. “iike any other craft or artI the more you do itI the bet­ter you get. I call it ‘In­ter­est­ing caces of ians­dale.’”

ians­dale res­i­dent Aaron WienerI 45I a co-owner of the galleryI which op­er­ates as an artists’ col­lec­tiveI works in glass. ee had sev­eral pieces on dis­playI in­clud­ing a fan­tas­ti­cally in­tri­cate glass mo­tor­cy­cle and etched glass jars.

WienerI who teaches as the Crefeld School in Philadel­phiaI en­joys restor­ing Ital­ian mo­tor­cy­cles as a hobby.

“ee called me up and saidI ‘Don’t call my wife. I want to open an art gallery. Are you in?’” re­called Wiener’s sis­terI iiat Pis­coI 40I of ievit­townI who makes jew­elry. “I saidI ‘Of courseI you’re my brother.’”

She coun­seled him to open it some­where elseI but Wiener in­sisted it should be in ians­dale.

Bette Con­wayI 50I also a metal smith at Wa­terI plays WKH ,RLSK fiGGOH DNG LS D JHRORgist. She moved to ians­dale WR SWuGy SOLJR-SWyOH fiGGOH play­ing with gohn Bren­nan. Bren­nanI 5SI of bast Nor­ri­tonI also makes jew­elry. eis sil­ver pieces with un­usual gem­stones like tan­zan­ite and ous­sian chrome diop­sideI also grace the gallery’s casHS. ,N DGGLWLRN WR WKH fiGGOH, Bren­nan plays gui­tar and has per­formed with The Chief­tains.

Amanda TollI O5I an­other mem­ber of Wa­terI dis­played her ar­rest­ing metal­lic print pho­tographsI many of ar­chi­tec­tural de­tails. She said she’s taken pic­tures since she was 11 years old and stud­ied at jont­gomery County Community Col­lege and the Abing­ton Art Cen­ter. The Abing­ton res­i­dent cur­rently has a solo show at Briar Bush Na­ture Cen­ter.

Some of the most strik­ing pieces are by gohn gonesI a Philadel­phia artist who works in glass and other ma­te­ri­als. gones said that he is in­spired by Abo­rig­i­nal sto­ries of the Dream Time. cour mixed me­dia pic­tures mounted on the wall rep­re­sent a “door” that faces emerge from as if from an­other di­men­sion or time. gonesI S1I had al­ways wanted to be an artist but stud­ied ar­chi­tec­ture be­fore SOuNJLNJ LNWR fiNH DRWS.
