Eclectic mix includes mayor’s artwork
An eclectic show of jewelryI paintingsI photographyI art glass and ceramics is on display at Water blemental Crafts C cine Art Gallery in iansdale.
Artists were on hand to greet visitors at the opening of the show Sept. TI which celebrated the second anniversary of the gallery.
iansdale jayor Andy Szekely has several portraits of well-known area residents on display.
SzekelyI 4OI a chiropractorI as well as the borough’s mayorI has been painting since he was a child.
ee began a painting of the former jayor jike DiNunzioI who passed away and “unfortunately never got to see itI” said Szekely. ee followed with former councilman Dick Stricker.
“I enjoyed doing the portraits so I kept goingI” said SzekelyI who works in oil paint on canvas. “iike any other craft or artI the more you do itI the better you get. I call it ‘Interesting caces of iansdale.’”
iansdale resident Aaron WienerI 45I a co-owner of the galleryI which operates as an artists’ collectiveI works in glass. ee had several pieces on displayI including a fantastically intricate glass motorcycle and etched glass jars.
WienerI who teaches as the Crefeld School in PhiladelphiaI enjoys restoring Italian motorcycles as a hobby.
“ee called me up and saidI ‘Don’t call my wife. I want to open an art gallery. Are you in?’” recalled Wiener’s sisterI iiat PiscoI 40I of ievittownI who makes jewelry. “I saidI ‘Of courseI you’re my brother.’”
She counseled him to open it somewhere elseI but Wiener insisted it should be in iansdale.

BrennanI 5SI of bast NorritonI also makes jewelry. eis silver pieces with unusual gemstones like tanzanite and oussian chrome diopsideI also grace the gallery’s casHS. ,N DGGLWLRN WR WKH fiGGOH, Brennan plays guitar and has performed with The Chieftains.
Amanda TollI O5I another member of WaterI displayed her arresting metallic print photographsI many of architectural details. She said she’s taken pictures since she was 11 years old and studied at jontgomery County Community College and the Abington Art Center. The Abington resident currently has a solo show at Briar Bush Nature Center.
Some of the most striking pieces are by gohn gonesI a Philadelphia artist who works in glass and other materials. gones said that he is inspired by Aboriginal stories of the Dream Time. cour mixed media pictures mounted on the wall represent a “door” that faces emerge from as if from another dimension or time. gonesI S1I had always wanted to be an artist but studied architecture before SOuNJLNJ LNWR fiNH DRWS.
