If Bishop McDe­vitt didn’t ap­pear to be miss­ing its start­ing point guard, Sierra DDCRsWD, LQ WKH firsW TuDrter, the ooyal Lancers were cer­tainly miss­ing her for the re­main­der of the game.

AIWHr D surSrLsLQg firsW eight min­utes saw McDe­vitt outscore vis­it­ing Lans­dale Catholic, 20-18, the Cru­saders went on a 25-4 run over WKH FRursH RI WKH QHxW TuDrWHr and a half, even­tu­ally go­ing up by as many as 20 points.

In the end, the Cru­saders’ huge ad­van­tage in re­bound­ing, along with its 16-for-17 ef­fort from the free throw line, was enough to give LC a con­vinc­ing 53-39 win over the Lancers in a Philadel­phia Catholic League meet­ing at Bishop McDe­vitt on Thurs­day night.

The Cru­saders (7-9, 4-3F re­ceived game highs of 19 SRLQWs DQG fivH bORFNHG sKRWs from sopho­more Sha­line Miller, who hit all seven of her free throw at­tempts.

“It’s good be­cause last year, we weren’t that great of a free throw shoot­ing team,” LC coach Heather Glemser said. “Free throw shoot­ing this sea­son is much im­proved, so I’m really proud of the girls to be able to go to the line and shoot so well.”

“We were hurt­ing,” McDe­vitt coach Steve Prescott said. “Our point guard (DaCostaF got hurt in the (Arch­bish­opF Wood game and not hav­ing her in the start­ing lineup really hurt us. We’re a young team and we have ups and downs, but we’re strug­gling here and there. We’re less balanced with­out her in there, even when the other team is trap­ping.”

De­spite hav­ing plenty to wRrN RQ DIWHr WKH firsW KDOI, McDe­vitt was un­able to re­cover and mount a come­bDFN LQ WKH WKLrG TuDrWHr, Ds LC outscored the Lancers 14-6 in the pe­riod.

“It feels really good. I’m really ex­cited,” Crisler said. “See­ing Steph do it last year was great, and she was one RI WKH fiUSW 1RUWK 3HQQ SODy­ers to do it in nine years. So to have it hap­pen two years in a row is awe­some.”
