After the North Penn boys basketball team collected its seventh-straight win Thursday night, senior Stephan Brown has no doubts about the hnights’ postseason plans.

“We made it,” the senior said. “We had a real, real shaky start — 5-10. We’re way better than we were. Everyone’s turned up (the) defense, selfishness went way down, moving the ball around. I think we (are) underdogs — we deserve to be there now.”

North Penn can feel confident of its place in the 32-team District lne Class AAAA tournament field as it jumped out to an early double-digit lead against visiting Pennridge and rolled to a 72-56 Suburban lne League Continental Conference victory on Senior Night.

“We are going to make the playoffs, I don’t know where yet,” hnights second-year coach John Conrad said. “Last I saw it was 27th (seed) or something like that. So, still a lot up in the air, but the good news is we’re practicing tomorrow.”

Brian Coleman paced North Penn (12-10, 7-7) with 15 points, while Brown added 14. Noah Melchior knocked down a trio of three-pointers and finished with 12 points.

The hnights never trailed and took firm control of the contest by ending the first quarter on a 14-1 run to lead 19-5 after a Coleman three.

The closest the Rams (913, 4-10) could cut their deficit to was 12 when an Alex hrivda basket to open the third made it 35-23. North Penn, however, was ahead by 19 entering the fourth and pushed its advantage to as much as 24 in the final period.

hrivda had a game-high 21 points for Pennridge, which ends its season having lost five straight and seven of its final eight. Shane Schmidt had 10 points, while Jeff Garner and Zach Muredda each scored 10 points.

“I would have said probably three or four weeks ago, no one was thinking about North Penn being in the playoffs, Rams coach Dean Behrens said. “And here they are, they’re probably going to have a nice little seed for the playoffs.”

North Penn’s Stephan Brown cuts past Pennridge’s Dan Shane during Thursday’s Suburban One Continental Conference action.
