Eclipse claims state USSSA title
The North menn Eclipse 18-and-under team has plenty of softball left to be played this summer, but they already have a crowning achievement in their back pocket.
Last Sunday the team made up of girls from several different high schools, signed up for the “A USSSA State Championship tournament” to prepare for the “B tourney.” They ended up going 6-1 over the weekend, outlasting 15 other teams, and winning it all.

“We are actually listed as a “B” team, but I sign us up for tournaments where we can play the best,” Eclipse coach Lenny Diehl said. “Everybody played great and the pitching was outstanding. It is the top accomplishment.”
So how did the team there for the ride end up being the pace car?
The Eclipse described it as coach Lenny Diehl’s tricks, but he is not pulling a rabbit out the hat. The coach put his team in calculated positions to succeed and the girls executed when it counted the most. They upset the Lehigh Valley mower (AllentownF and Sting 18U Black (CollegevilleF before beating Odyssey (mlymouth-MeetingF 4-1 IRU WKHLU fiQDO WULFN.
“Lenny has all the tricks,” shortstop Megan Lopes said. “When you think he would not do something, like bunt with two strikes, he will and we will win that way. I think of him as a magician.”
In the championship win over Odyssey it was Christen Martin who recorded the win for her efforts in the circle. The rising junior at mhoenixville welcomed an early 1-0 lead from the Eclipse offense and kept the opposition off-balance.
“In any state championship game nerves are going to be involved,” Martin said. “My drop curve was working. It is one of my favorite pitches.”
The Eclipse tacked on and never let up defensively. North menn’s Jackie Bilotti came on to SLWFK WKH fiQDO LQQLQJV WR VHFuUH the surprising championship win. With the win the Eclipse
