No replacement yet

RICHMOND, Va. — Washington Redskins Coach Jay Gruden said the team would be in no rush to sign someone to replace outside linebacker Junior Galette, who tore his right Achilles’ tendon on Sunday.

Gruden said the team will opt instead to evaluate players already on the roster during training camp.

Galette missed last season after rupturing his left Achilles’ tendon late in the preseason and then spent the past 11 months working his way back from surgery. He anticipated returning to the field at the start of training camp, which begins today.

However, on Sunday, while doing drills on his own, Galette tore the opposite Achilles’ tendon.

Coaches had planned on using Galette alongside Ryan Kerrigan, who led the team with 9½ sacks last season, and Preston Smith (eight sacks). Now, Gruden and his assistants, and General Manager Scot McCloughan and his staff, must decide whether to add another veteran to the roster.

For now, team officials will evaluate the talent currently on the roster to help determine whether or not they need additional help.
