South Broadway at the time was lined with large, fine homes and a landscaped island in the center of the broad street. The card was sent to a man’s wife in Hot Springs, “My Beloved & Only Wife, Am I forgotten so soon or has someone else replaced me? I trust you always be careful and don’t do anything that your husband don’t like. Oh, may you know I belong all to you. I am sad, sad, sad. I won’t last long. Kisses and sweet embraces from your husband John.”
