Cotton, Senate should try again on health care

Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette - - EDITORIAL PAGE -

Sen. Tom Cotton publicly stated he would not vote for any health care measures that would hurt Arkansans. The remarkable cuts to Medicaid proposed in the current Senate version of the health care bill will dramatically and negatively impact many Arkansans, particularly children and the Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

Sen. Cotton helped craft this bill. In 2014, 62 percent of Arkansas Children’s Hospital’s income came from Medicaid. The restructuring of federal Medicaid funding in this bill could be dreadful, particularly for families with special needs children and Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

I can only imagine the sleepless nights some parents are having as they anticipate the loss of help for their child.

I hope Sen. Cotton will try to imagine his own children without the health insurance we the people provide for him and his family. Then I hope he will go back to the drawing board to create a bill that better serves the people he represents. GINNY MASULLO Fayetteville
