Girl missing near War Eagle Mill
Benton, Washington county dive teams to continue search today
A 13-year-old girl is missing in the War Eagle Mill area and presumed dead, according to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.
The Benton and Washington county dive teams were searching War Eagle Creek with sonar and other equipment into Friday night and will continue the search this morning if the girl isn’t found, said Capt. Ed Motsinger of the Sheriff’s Office.
The Rogers Fire Department, Beaver Lake Fire Department, Benton County Division of Public Safety and Piney Point Fire Department responded to a call at 4:41 p.m. Friday about one or two people drowning at 11045 War Eagle Road.
Motsinger said at least two teenagers were playing around the water and the girl became distressed.
The girl’s mother, Kristi Wylie, 31, got into the water to help the girl, Motsinger said, but both went underwater.
Bystanders pulled Wylie out of the water and one gave her CPR until emergency workers arrived, Motsinger said. She was taken to a local hospital.
A man and another teenage girl were both safe on shore.
Motsinger said the water was not swift or higher than usual.
“This is actually very rare that we get calls out here, very rare,” Motsinger said.
Emergency personnel work together with construction crews Friday at the War Eagle Bridge as they search for a person believed to be in the water beneath the bridge.
