Cou­ple gives $50,000 for UA schol­ar­ships

FAYET­TEVILLE — A Fayet­teville cou­ple gave $50,000 to the Uni­ver­sity of Arkansas, Fayet­teville, the uni­ver­sity an­nounced.

The Ken and Liz Allen Schol­ar­ship Fund will help stu­dents who are Arkansas res­i­dents, sup­port­ing a uni­ver­sity ini­tia­tive known as Ad­vance Arkansas, which cre­ates schol­ar­ship en­dow­ments for in-state stu­dents.

The Allen fund will help stu­dents “who demon­strate fi­nan­cial need and the aca­demic po­ten­tial for suc­cess” in UA’s Sam M. Wal­ton Col­lege of Busi­ness, with the award then avail­able through­out their un­der­grad­u­ate stud­ies, re­gard­less of aca­demic ma­jor, ac­cord­ing to UA’s an­nounce­ment.

“Ken and Liz Allen con­tinue to be key sup­port­ers of the uni­ver­sity with this gen­er­ous gift to help Arkansas stu­dents who are in­ter­ested in be­ing a part of the fu­ture of busi­ness in our state,” Matt Waller, dean of the UA busi­ness col­lege, said in a state­ment.

Ken and Liz Allen met at UA and earned bach­e­lor’s de­grees in 1980.

“Most of the good things in our lives started at the uni­ver­sity,” Liz Allen said in a state­ment.
