Bentonville, circa 1905
“While Siegel [misspelled on the card] was eating his breakfast at this hotel, he was surprised by the Confederates and had to leave his meal. In 1895 he came back and said he came to finish his breakfast. He was an honored guest of both sides.” General Franz Siegel, a veteran of the German Army before coming to the United States, commanded Union troops at the Battle of Pea Ridge. The hotel, which stood near the town square, was long ago razed and replaced.
