■ Chris Hooper, a po­lice lieu­tenant in Cor­pus Christi, Texas, said of­fi­cers freed a con­trac­tor who slipped notes to bank cus­tomers through the re­ceipt slot plead­ing for help after he ac­ci­den­tally locked him­self in­side a room that led to the back of an ATM.

■ Jimmy Carter, 92, the former pres­i­dent, was treated at a hospi­tal in Win­nipeg, Man­i­toba, as a pre­cau­tion Thurs­day after be­com­ing de­hy­drated as he and his wife, Ros­alynn, worked in the hot sun to help build houses at a Habi­tat for Hu­man­ity project. ■ Kathi Bab­bit, a union shop ste­ward in Kalamazoo, Mich., con­firmed that a grievance over sub­con­tract­ing was filed after Western Michi­gan Univer­sity hired a team of goats to clear un­der­brush from 15 acres of cam­pus wood­land with­out telling the union.

■ Re­van­tae Wil­liams, 24, who es­caped from an in­mate re-en­try pro­gram in Ocala, Fla., knocked on the door of a 63-year-old grand­mother and asked to use the tele­phone but ended up sur­ren­der­ing to po­lice when the woman per­suaded him to give up. ■ Bob Martin, a bee­keeper, told sher­iff’s deputies that it’s likely that the thief who made off with seven hives con­tain­ing 400,000 bees from an api­ary in Foyil, Okla., got stung “quite a bit” dur­ing the heist since a blan­ket used to cover the hives was left be­hind.

■ Jonathan Jor­dan, 18, of Mont­gomery, Ala., faces an at­tempted-ar­son charge after in­ves­ti­ga­tors said he used a lighter to ig­nite a dec­o­ra­tive win­dow cov­er­ing as he ar­gued with his mother, en­dan­ger­ing her life as well those of two younger sib­lings in the house.

■ Car­men Courch­esne, 74, who is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s dis­ease and uses a wheel­chair, ar­rived home a day late after miss­ing her flight from Bos­ton to Fort My­ers, Fla., when a Jet-Blue em­ployee es­cort­ing Courch­esne through the ter­mi­nal left her alone at the wrong gate, fam­ily mem­bers said.

■ Fran­cisco Hernandez, 39, tried to hide when po­lice in Ven­tura, Calif., ar­rived at his home to ar­rest him in a June 30 bank rob­bery but was quickly dis­cov­ered by a po­lice dog that found him in­side a mod­i­fied couch.
