Tennessee home explodes; two die

Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette - - NATIONAL -

MARYVILLE, Tenn. — Two people died late Thursday when a house in Tennessee exploded.

Blount County sheriff’s office spokesman Marian O’Briant said deputies and firefighters who responded to the scene in Maryville found the house destroyed.

O’Briant says investigators, assisted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, are sifting the rubble and working to determine the cause of the explosion.

The two victims have not been identified. Authorities do not know whether they were residents of the home. State property records show the house was owned by Donald and Carey Knight.

Authorities said a section road near the property will be closed to traffic for an undetermined amount of time, but area residents will be allowed access.
