Former television host pleads not guilty to rape
FAYETTEVILLE — A former Univision Arkansas host pleaded not guilty to a rape charge Friday in Washington County Circuit Court, according to the prosecuting attorney’s office.
A trial for Victor Hugo Alvarez-Real, 35, of 1012 N. Kansas St. in Springdale was set for 8:30 a.m. Sept. 26 in front of Judge Joanna Taylor. He’s charged with raping a 7-year-old child, according to an arrest affidavit.
In October, a mother took her child to the Children’s Clinic in Springdale for a rash, which later tested positive for herpes and chlamydia, according to an arrest affidavit. In January, the child told her mother Alvarez-Real assaulted her, and the woman contacted police, according to the affidavit.
When contacted by off icials in January, Alva rez- Re a l denied any wrongdoing. Pinnacle Media/Univision said in a statement in late May that Alvarez-Real left the company in January.
An arrest warrant was issued May 15 for Alvarez-Real. He was arrested in June in Texas and returned July 3 to the Washington County Detention Center. Alvarez-Real was released from the jail July 4 with a $25,000 bond.
