Long­time area musician and poet Ger­ald Sloan will read from his new book, Cross­ings, A Mem­oir in Verse, at the monthly meet­ing of the Ozark Po­ets and Writ­ers Col­lec­tive at 7 p.m. July 25 at Night­bird Books, 205 W. Dick­son St. in Fayet­teville.

The book cover notes that “this new­est verse mem­oir by Gerry Sloan con­tains over a hun­dred poetic, lit­er­ary and pho­to­graphic in­sights, com­men­taries and rem­i­nis­cences of life in ru­ral mid-Amer­ica and re­flec­tions on what it means to­day.”

The vol­ume by the re­tired Univer­sity of Arkansas mu­sic pro­fes­sor fea­tures photos taken by his friend Rick Squires and will be avail­able that evening at Night­bird for sale and sign­ing by the au­thor.

As al­ways, the pro­gram in­cludes spo­ken-word open mic ses­sions for au­di­ence mem­bers, with a four-minute limit.

The pro­gram is free, but do­na­tions are ac­cepted. Young peo­ple are wel­come, but the pro­gram may in­clude adult lan­guage and themes.
