Hutchinson revises filed finance report

Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette - - VOICES -

Gov. Asa Hutchinson’s campaign on Tuesday amended one of its finance reports filed the day before to show that Mark G. Martin, owner of Martin’s Bait Hauling in Lonoke, contributed to the campaign last quarter — not Republican Secretary of State Mark Martin.

The Republican governor’s campaign on Monday filed finance reports with the secretary of state’s office. The campaign erroneously listed Secretary of State Martin as contributing $500 on June 27 for Hutchinson’s primary election campaign. The contribution was included in an article published by this newspaper Tuesday.

The secretary of state’s spokesman, Chris Powell, said Tuesday that his boss didn’t make the contribution.

Hutchinson political strategist Jon Gilmore said the amendment filed Tuesday fixed “a clerical mistake” that resulted from someone assuming the identity of the contributor.

Secretary of State Martin, of Prairie Grove, could not be reached for comment by telephone Tuesday afternoon.

Asked whether Martin supports Hutchinson’s re- election, Powell said, “That’s more of a political question and I couldn’t comment on that.”
