Proposal No. 9

The proposal, which will be voted on Monday during the Arkansas Activities Associatio­n’s annual meeting of the governing body in Little Rock, will cause classifica­tion changes in every sport but football. Those changes, effective at the start of the 2018-19 school year, are as follows:

Basketball, baseball, softball, golf and track and field

There will be six classes, with Class 6A consisting of the state’s 16 largest schools. Class 5A will have the next 32 largest schools, followed by Class 4A with the next 48 schools. The remaining schools will be divided by three and placed in Class 3A through 1A, with any schools left over going to Class 1A.

Wrestling and swimming

Class 6A and 5A will have the same schools, but schools in Class 4A and below will compete in the same state tournament.

Cross country and tennis

Class 1A and 2A schools will compete in the same state championsh­ip. The remaining classes will remain the same.

Volleyball, soccer and bowling

Class 6A, Class 5A and Class 4A remain the same. Schools in Class 3A and below will be grouped together and compete for the same state championsh­ip.
