Ellis keeps Naturals in check in Cards’ win
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Chris Ellis tossed seven scoreless innings, leading the Springfield Cardinals over the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in a 5-3 win on Thursday.
Andrew Morales struck Allan de San Miguel out with runners on first and second to end the game for his first save of the season.
Ellis (3-6) picked up the win after he struck out five and walked one while allowing five hits.
Springfield started the scoring in the second when it put up three runs, including a double by Eliezer Alvarez that scored John Nogowski.
After Springfield added two runs, the Naturals cut into the deficit with three runs in the ninth inning, including a single by Humberto Arteaga that scored Mauricio Ramos.
Emilio Ogando (7-8) went five innings, allowing four runs and eight hits in the Texas League game.
For the Naturals, Ramos
doubled twice, scoring a run and also driving one home.
