El­lis keeps Naturals in check in Cards’ win

SPRING­FIELD, Mo. — Chris El­lis tossed seven score­less in­nings, lead­ing the Spring­field Car­di­nals over the North­west Arkansas Naturals in a 5-3 win on Thurs­day.

An­drew Mo­rales struck Al­lan de San Miguel out with run­ners on first and sec­ond to end the game for his first save of the sea­son.

El­lis (3-6) picked up the win af­ter he struck out five and walked one while al­low­ing five hits.

Spring­field started the scor­ing in the sec­ond when it put up three runs, in­clud­ing a dou­ble by Eliezer Al­varez that scored John No­gowski.

Af­ter Spring­field added two runs, the Naturals cut into the deficit with three runs in the ninth in­ning, in­clud­ing a sin­gle by Hum­berto Arteaga that scored Mauricio Ramos.

Emilio Ogando (7-8) went five in­nings, al­low­ing four runs and eight hits in the Texas League game.

For the Naturals, Ramos

dou­bled twice, scor­ing a run and also driv­ing one home.
