BENTONVILLE — A Garfield man was sentenced to eight years in prison Monday after he pleaded guilty to a robbery at Ventris Trail’s End Resort two years ago.

Clayton Calhoun, 33, pleaded guilty to robbery and second-degree battery. The plea was part of an agreement attorney Drew Miller reached with

Sam Martin, deputy prosecutor.

Calhoun and Crystal Bandy, 32, of Fort Smith were arrested June 23, 2015, in connection with the robbery.

Bandy, represented by Bentonville lawyer Shane Wilkinson, also faced felony charges, but prosecutors dismissed the charges.

Calhoun and Bandy were leaving the lodge at Ventris Trail, 9484 Simrell Drive in Garfield, when deputies arrived about 2 a.m., according to a police report. Calhoun had a bottle of vodka in his hand and Bandy had an assortment of items in her bag belonging to Jody Simrell, the resort’s manager.

A 911 call indicated Simrell had been beaten and abducted, according to the report.

Simrell told deputies he remembered Calhoun hitting him and someone showering him, according to the report.

Benton County Circuit Judge Robin Green accepted the plea agreement and Calhoun’s guilty plea.

Calhoun must abide by a suspended sentence agreement for seven years after his release from prison and pay $1,170 in court costs.
